The International Boxing Club & Learning Center is pleased to announce their newest project, the Vocational Training Center. This project was generously awarded a $10,000 grant from the Toledo Rotary Foundation.
On Thursday July 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 PM we will host a media and philanthropist’s event to promote this project.
The Vocational Training Center will offer young men and women the opportunity to gain new, marketable skills in construction, electrical installation, and plumbing. They will work with adult mentors who are employed in the industry to build walls, lay floors, install drywall, paint/finish walls, plumb pipes/systems, install electrical systems, and frame a model “home” (smaller than a normal residence) in the first year of the program.
The first model will be built on-site in our Vocational Training Center and will remain as a teaching tool. In the future, we may build other sheds/model homes that can be sold to local nonprofit organizations to realize service generated income for the program. All Vocational Training Center activities will be coordinated and conducted in an environment where safety is a paramount, oversight by adult role models is constant, and emphasis is placed on doing quality work, every time.
This project has the support of County Administrator Peter Ujvagi, Marilyn Jacobs from the Department of Labor, and City Councilman Mike Craig.
All plan to attend the event, and Peter Ujvagi has invited a representative from Marcy Kaptur’s office to learn about the Vocational Training Center and the International Boxing Club & Learning Center.
